circular form, the scalloped reeded rim with crossed ribbon highlights, the elaborate central coat of arms (Arms of Douglas, 19th Earl of Morton (1844-1935) and Arms of England etc) between two stags, this framed by scrolling florals conforming to the scallop rim. Raised on four bracket type feet. London 1868 by John Hunt & Robert Roskell. 4.5 kilos. Stamped to the reverse HUNT & ROSKILL LATE STORR & MORTIMER 4711. Note: Hunt & Roskell were renowned jewellers and silversmiths on Bond Street in London who for many years held the Royal Warrant of Queen Victoria. The firm was the successor to the celebrated silversmith Paul Storr. Paul Storr was England's most celebrated silversmith during the first half of the 19thC and his legacy lives on today. His pieces historically and currently adorn royal palaces and the finest stately homes.
