the lid with full figure finial of a winged angel, the compressed body with cartouches of hounds chasing hares, rearing demi-horse handles, on pedestal base. Profusely embossed. Showing some wear. London 1878 by George Fox. 2256gms. H.500mm. Note: It is recorded that this cup 'was given by the Hon. M. Holmes and that this was such an event that a special train from Oamaru' was put on and that not far short of 500, among whom was quite a regiment of horsemen, the dogs comprising most of the best blood in Otago and Southland'.
