A rare c.1930s watercolour of 'Miss Amy Johnson'

Estimate: $200 - $400

Lot Description

A rare c.1930s watercolour of 'Miss Amy Johnson', the famous British aviatrix seated in her plane known as Jason. Signed and inscribed 'Thank God She is Safe'. 270 x 215mm. Note: Johnson, CBE, born 1903 was a pioneering English female pilot who was the first woman to fly solo from London to Australia. She flew in the Second World War as part of the Air Transport Auxiliary and died during a ferry flight, going off course in adverse weather conditions, it is uncertain whether she baled out of her aircraft or if it was a mistaken case of friendly fire.
