charcoal on paper, signed. Entitled verso. 500 x 715mm. Note: Sandys was the paymaster and surveyor on the 'HMS Opal', commanded by Captain Bosanquet, which sailed around the coast of New Zealand in the 1880s. He produced a number of charcoal drawings and watercolours depicting the wildlife and landscapes which he encountered over the course of his travels.
