Lot Details
a German commercial passenger-carrying rigid airship. Filled with hydrogen, it caught fire and was destroyed during its attempt to dock with its mooring mast at Naval Air Station Lakehurst, New Jersey, USA in 1937. Attached to base, decorated as a runway with models etc. Together with two books and artwork. 1000 x 420 x 400mm. Provenance: Made by John Borrows, an Auckland engineer who was the brains behind Fisher & Paykel's revolutionary SmartDrive washing machine. In Mr Borrows’ spare time he was a model maker.
