Lot Details
a noted Auckland Grammar School student, bayonetted at Chunuk Bair killed at Messines with the NZ Engineers. Impressed 4/432 L/CPL F J PRESTON NZEF. Note: Preston was a champion cadet shot, and a very enlistment he embarked for Egypt in October 1914. He was bayonetted in the viscous hand to hand combat when Chunuk Bair was over-run by the Turks on 10 August 1915. After his recovery he embarked to France and was killed at Messines on 7 June 1916, where he was buried in a garden shell hole. The medal framed and displayed with two Engineers badges. Includes copies of photo.
