depicting the exiled King Ovonramwen. (Some faults and restoration). L. 780mm. Oba Ovonramwen Nogbaisi was the 36th Oba of the Benin Kingdom (1888-1914), known for his resistance to British expansion. His reign ended when British forces invaded and burned Benin City in 1897, an event known as the Punitive Expedition, leading to his capture and exile to Calabar, where he died in 1914.
