Lot Details

Cat. Note/Ref.: Thomas Henry Fletcher was born in Newry, County Down, in what is now Northern Ireland. He trained as a doctor. With his wife Grace (née Johnstone) and family he migrated to New Zealand in 1875 as a part of the protestant settlement organised by George Vesey Stewart at Katikati in the Bay of Plenty. As a farmer he developed the Homewood estate and died on 16 March 1889. This miniature, framed in Auckland probably in the 1890s, was inherited by his son Eustace, identified in his mother's death notice as the manager of the National Bank in Whanganui.
