Guangdong, China, 20thC. Ng ka py bottle (), stoneware, China, c.1875. Pyriform shaped bottle of buff coloured clay. Flat, indented base, integral foot ring, globular body, short neck with a narrow mouth and an everted rim. Excluding the resting surface, covered in a thin brown glaze; the upper body and interior in thick brown lustre glaze. H.16cm. Dia.12cm Cat. Note/Ref.: The relatively sophisticated lustre glaze suggests a date of manufacture after Chinese activity on New Zealand goldfields. Ng ka py is still commercially available in similar stoneware bottles.
