A rare 18th Century Scottish basket hilt sword

the 927mm double-edge blade with two broad fullers on each face, both engraved with Scottish saying. Iron hilt of the form, c.1700-1740 with bead tipped ovoid pommel. Leather covered grip. 1090mm overall length. No scabbard. A rare survivor that may have seen the Jacobite Rising of 1745 or the Battle of Culloden 1746. Together with a letter of provenance dated back to c.1900 'It was found in a Wanganui Curio Shop by Mrs Robertson....Every indication points to this weapon being with a member of the constabulary.'.
