Lot Details

type 1, with peaked head, pointed elbows and over lapping feet. Paua shell ring set eyes. H.178mm. Note: David Tuart (1936-2019) was a Rotorua based carver working c.1960 - 1980. A similar whale bone hei tiki by Tuart id illustrated (full page) in the publication 'Te Hei Tiki' by Dougal Austin. Te Papa Press 2019. Page 192. Recorded as being in the collection Charles Wilson , 'who is an admirer of his work'.
