Lot Details
charcoal on paper, signed. Entitled and signed verso, together with 1961 dated gifting history. 288 x 225mm. Note: Mina Arndt was born in 1885 at Thurlby Domain, near Queenstown. Uncommonly for a new Zealand artist, in the early 1900s, Arndt travelled to London to study with Frank Brangwyn, Stanhope Forbes and George Lambert. She also met the German engraver Herman Struck, who invited her to study etching with him in Berlin. She returned to New Zealand at the outbreak of war. In 1916 she married Mr Manoy and went to live at Motueka, she exhibited occasionally. In more recent time her recognition as an important figure, in the New Zealand art scene has grown.
