Lot Details
oil on canvas, signed. 1380 x 1980mm. From the estate of a private Wellington woman. Note: Robert McGregor (1848–1922) was a Scottish RSA-elected genre, landscape, and marine painter recognized for depicting working-class figures, such as fishermen and labourers in rural or coastal settings, using muted, earthy tones. His work often featured figures returning from labour or in daily routines and seen in this monumental size oil, one of the largest recorded by McGregor. He was deeply influenced by the French Barbizon school and Dutch realism, including Jean-François Millet and Anton Mauve.
