53mm case hallmarked 1898 by Richard James Oliver, case maker, Clerkenwell, London, numbered the same as the movement. Engine-turned back with vacant shield cartouche framed by engraved garter. Case band with milled pattern. White enamel Roman dial with rail track minutes, subsidiary seconds at VI, gold hands. Signed 'Barwise, London, 7107'. Regency period fusée movement with duplex escapement, signed and numbered to backplate and dust cover. John Barwise was born in 1757 and resided in London until his death in 1842. During this time, he became one of London's most respected watchmakers and also served on the Board of Longitude.
