Lot Details

the medal engraved ‘Presented to A. Turnbull, Esq. 1917’. Given the Wellington connection this likely refers to Alexander Horsburgh Turnbull (1868-1918), who set up the well-known library that exists today. Note: Honorary membership of the RSA was frequently extended to prominent citizens who, although not returned men, had assisted the RSA in some way, be it financially or politically. Lawyers, physicians, philanthropists and even the Government Printer, Marcus Marks, were honoured in this way.
