Lot Details

hand painted on rice paper. 400 x 280mm. Note: Shunga were typically produced as ukiyo-e (wood block prints) these examples are all hand painted which is very unusual. They feature fine detail and vibrant colours. Translated literally the Japanese word Shunga means ‘picture of spring’ Spring is a common 19thC Japanese euphemism associated with sexual activity.
