after George French Angas. Hand-coloured lithograph on fine calico. Working Men's Educational Union publications stamp and 'M 11' stamp lower right. Inscribed 'N.Z. Blind Ch.' verso. Inscribed '13' lower left. Some damage commensurate with age. 1190 x 900mm. Horomona Maruhau, also known as Blind Solomon, was active in early- to mid-20th-century New Zealand. He was known as a fighter before losing his sight at ?t?whao, shortly after an attack on a p? at Poverty Bay. Following this, he became a native teacher under the Reverend J. Morgan.
