Lot Details

the padded leather, with a trellis pattern of small brass studs, of arch form; with a nape panel of brass and steel aventail. The lower edge of the aventail is 'vandyked', terminating in long and short triangular points (see footnote). H.390mm, W.410mm, in glazed display box. Some losses and repairs. Provenance: Spring London Arms and Armour Fair April 2012. £600 Footnote: Hours of skilled labour were required not only to mesh the unwelded rings, each only 4mm in diameter, but also to add contrasting golden brass rings to the dark grey steel mail to create diamond patterns in the aventail.
