36" barrel retained with screw-clamping bands, the lock without royal cypher is marked ‘Isaac Hollis & Sons, Makers to Her Majesty's War Department'. This ‘53’ is of the ‘Hay Pattern’ having a long bronze trigger guard tang and bottom sling swivel fixed to it. The rear sight is fitted correctly for a Hay Pattern just rear of end band. The butt plate is also bronze. Some pitting to the hammer & lock plate, the rest of the iron work has silver grey appearance. Very good walnut stock with small burn area to butt. Complete with ramrod & leather sling. Butt plate tang marked ‘NZ 3862’. Good working order & condition. Provenance: Hawkes Bay Arms, 22/03/2003, Lot 221. $2300. NLR.
