Design No's 52389, 50791, 52571, 50796 ETC. fitting to the number sequence as designs probably by Raoul Dufy. Bianchini-Ferier had the foresight to employ professional designers and artists in the design of its textiles. As a result the firm achieved recognition at various international exhibitions for the high quality of design and production. One of its greatest successes was the artist/designer Raoul Dufy (1877-1953) who worked for the company from 1912 to about 1928. At the time of his employment, Dufy had established a reputation as a designer of fabric for renown Parisian couturier, Paul Poiret. Provenance: Purchased by our vendor from the Christies London auction 'Two Centuries of Design The Bianchini Ferier Collection' sold 25th July 2001. The original catalogue available for viewing at reception but NOT sold with this lot.
