hallmarked Birmingham 1890, by Cornelius Desormeaux Saunders & Frank Shepherd. Rounded rectangular shape, half the body occupied by a vesta case with hinged lid incorporating striker; inside a miniature propelling pencil and toothpick; the opposite end houses a sovereign case and a stamp holder in the hinged cover. Engraved "DCLS (Dunedin City ??) 'd' C.E.Haughton". Haughton (1827-1904) was an Otago MP, Leader of the Opposition, Councillor and journalist. 45gm
