Lot Details
Largest length 170mm. Peter Hughson was born in Greymouth, on the West Coast. His first job out of school was at Canterbury Museum where he worked as an assistant to the creative director in charge of developing the museum’s cultural and environmental dioramas. Peter was an early developer of the ‘jade’ industry on the West Coast, with local man Cliff Dalzell, and later with his friend Theo Schoon. He was a close friend of potter Yvonne Rust, and possibly influenced her move to the West Coast. He had a distinctive design ethic informed by a deep respect for Māori culture. Peter died November 2014.
