Lot Details

Wool pile on a cotton and wool foundation. Wonderfully balanced complex decoration of conjoined geometric göels in two rows with flame medallions at either end and in between. Framed by a ‘huryuk' (braid) border. The inscription to the small upper cartouche has Hijri dates and numerals open to interpretation as above as well as a name: 'Obad Kolizad and 'Allah' (twice). Note there is irregular oxidation of the black dyed wool pile. Designated by Professor Letif Kerimov in an appraisal as (2) 'Of great historical and cultural value' Literature: Azerbaijani-Caucasian Rugs (The Ulmke Collection, Switzerland) Cat. No. 80/ page 312
