Lot Details
Ferrari Bonnet Plaque from the estate of a Northland engineer who worked for Ferrari in Italy for some 15 years at the Maranello factory latterly as a senior electronics engineer. He returned to NZ around 1980 with this vintage asymmetrical race car bonnet. He restored the bonnet in his own Northland workshop in the manner of those he had seen on display at the Ferrari Museum during the time he worked there. The Museum is still immediately adjacent to the factory in Maranello though the displays are significantly changed. In their early relationship Enzo Ferrari and Sterling Moss had a strained relationship largely driven by Moss's disappointment in their early working relationships. Moss never drove for team Ferrari but just when harmony looked to be achieved Moss was involved in an accident. Meanwhile vendors unrestored bonnet sat unfinished in his workshop. It was only in 2000 when Moss was knighted that events prompted the completion of the bonnet. The dedication is intended to reflect the mutual respect of both men towards each other in the years after Moss's Formula One career ended in the late 1960s. H.1080mm W.860mm
