Lot Details
THAMES COAST'. 440 x 640mm. Note:....., Joseph Richard Mayclair Senior (1881–1956) was an itinerant colonial and mid-20th-century New Zealand landscape artist. Joseph Senior and his son, Joseph Junior (often referred to as Jim or Joe), travelled extensively around New Zealand—frequently on foot—painting regional scenery across both the North and South Islands. He predominantly worked in oils and watercolors, often applying oil paint directly onto paper glued to board. His works typically feature scenic New Zealand landscapes (such as the Thames Coast, Mt Cook, and central North Island volcanic views) with a signature style that sometimes included scraping out titles and signatures into the wet paint. This example being unusually large.
