lawyer and friend of fellow landscape artist Edward Lear. A memorial exhibition of his work, mainly paintings done in the Scottish Highlands, was held at the Burlington Fine Arts Club in 1890. This collection appears from the dating on some, to be from the mid-1850s, a prolific period when he visited many parts of Great Britain. Occasional ephemera associated with him, including correspondence with Lear has surfaced in New Zealand where some descendants have resided since the 1930s; these works have previous family provenance.
