Lot Details
carved wood and parcel gilt. The domed top internally painted in segments, supported on four wrythen twist columns with carved vine decoration. The square platform base with four extending carrying arms. Elaborately gilded and painted in red, blue and cream including faux marble panels. Minor faults. 600 x 1360 x 1200mm. Note: A baldachin is used in religious processions to cover sacred objects, such as during the procession of the Eucharist on Holy Friday in Orthodox Christianity. This baldachin being based on the Balacchino in St. Peter's Basilica, located in the Vatican City, Rome, Italy. Provenance: Gifted to Mercy Hospice by an Auckland Gentleman returning to his country of origin. Proceeds to Mercy Hospice.
