plaster with bronze patina, inscribed to base in pencil and ink "Made by me - an exercise in the Antique, about 1943-1949, Helen Hitchings", signed. H.230 x W.230mm. Helen Hitchings is best known as New Zealand's first modernist dealer gallerist who opened in Wellington, 1949. Hitchings also designed pieces of pottery which were commercially produced and sold through her gallery.
