A good quality Japanese katana sword by Hokke Saburo Nobufusa (1909-2000)
overall L.101mm. Nobufusa was arguably one of the top 30 sword smiths during WWII when this katana was made, as indicated by his ranking of 2.5 million yen. He was awarded Mukansa level status in 1981, one of the highest ranks for sword smiths. He was the 8th generation of sword smiths in his family. This katana was made in the Hosho School style that he is known for and comes in WWII mountings of good quality.

an exceptional example given its completeness and condition with all canine teeth and most others present, the lower jaw missing the back right coronoid section, a fine tree root still remains grown through the brain cavity. L.170mm. Provenance: Found by our vendor c.1975 Kawhia harbour foreshore area, exposed when a bank section had fallen away due to a high tide. Note: Kuri is the Maori name given to the extinct Polynesian dog introduced to New Zealand from East Polynesia in the 13th century.

Mounted on original faded velvet plinth with circular ebonised base, under glass dome. Some loses and restoration. Provenance: From the estate of R.K. Garlick (arrived in New Zealand in 1862) who was the owner of one of the first gum trading shops in Fort Street. The Garlicks lived in 'Ferndale'; one of Mt. Albert's stately homes. The Garlick & Lyon gum merchants store established in the 1880s had a 90ft frontage and cost £4,500 to set up.
