JEWELLERY, ANTIQUE & ART AUCTION Tuesday, 8 September 2020 - 10:00 AM start

An Arts & Crafts silver quaich by Cyril Kelsey

Realised: $800 plus premium

Lot Details

Kelsey was apprenticed as a metalworker with C. R. Ashbee's 'Guild of Handicraft' between 1896 and 1900 without taking up full membership; hand hammered circular with square wire handles, marked: CK, Sterling Silver, and fern mark. Dia.95mm, 110gm. Note: A question has been raised as to whether Kelsey came to NZ, and the suggestion has been made that this mark possibly may belong to the Auckland jeweller C.H. Keen [mentioned once in 'Gold & Silversmithing in Nineteenth & Twentieth Century New Zealand' y Winsome Shepherd. p.178]
