This Kerikeri online bidding only auction of historical and more modern carriages, carts, gigs, wagons, serious collection of tack and accessories is from the estate of Adrian Michael Garrett (1931–2025). Remembered as the Englishman who drove his horse and carriage down to the Stone Store, was a notable resident of Kerikeri, New Zealand, recognised for collecting rare 19th-century horse-drawn vehicles. With his late partner Sylvia, he operated the Quarterdeck Shire Stud focusing on breeding heavy horses such as Shires, Clydesdales, and Piebald Gypsy Vanners. He worked with others to school these horses, to pull the restored vintage wagons and carriages often attending and featuring at local events. The property also operated The Carriage House holiday accommodation, allowing guests to view the horses and vehicle collection. Garrett’s antique transport enthusiasm earned him recognition, with the collection including a historic Adelaide Express carriage from an 1883 build, the 1896 Lion Red Brewery wagon and harness and his award-winning vintage 1907 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost car (not included in this auction). This auction includes: 1896 May Brothers (Luton UK) Lion Brewer dray, Tasmanian-made Gypsy Bow wagon, Adelaide Express - open double seat waggonette/buggy, 1905 NZ Settlers Wagon, 1900 Cobb & Co waggonette, Waggonette - four wheel open carriage, 1907 TC Marshall (Paeroa NZ) Tipping Spring cart etc together with a considerable tack collection including: Charles and Diana 'God save the King!' wedding harness, multiple full pair sets of original Red Lion Brewery harness for two horses, pair complete set of DB Brewery Harness plus many more associated items. Note: Each Carriage has been stored in closed garages and harness is all well maintained and ready for immediate use except where repair has been mentioned.
