(The Temptation or Seduction). c.1920-1926. A snake rising from a circular woven basket base, with original alabaster flared shade. Signed E. BRANDT to base. H.1645mm. Dia.455mm (shade). Literature: 1930, quand le meuble devient sculpture, exhibition catalogue, Le Louvre des Antiquaires, Paris, 1981, the model referenced under number 58. Joan Kahr, Edgar Brandt, Master or Art Deco Ironwork, New York, 1999, p. 156, the model referenced under number 166. Joan Kahr, Edgar Brandt, Art Deco Ironwork, New York, 2010, p. 133, the model referenced under number 183. Provenance: Purchased in Paris c.1920 then brought back to New Zealand where it has been in the one family since. It is noted that these original lamps came with two shade types: a Daum glass or alabaster.
