'A Hermit at Prayer', oil on canvas, unsigned. 730 x 595mm. Biog. details verso. Provenance: Purchased Christie's South Kensington 1988. Cf. Christie's London, Old Master Pictures, 1998, lot 93, illus. pg. 46, the same subject, signed oil on panel 280 x 210mm, attributed to Van Staveren, sold for £4370. COMNDITION REPORT: Modern gilt frame, cardboard backboard stapled and taped in. The canvas is wavy/warped and evidently laid on some backing (it is not on a stretcher). There are two sizeable tears in hte top area, one v shaped repaired repainted inexpertly, the other slightly angled unclear as to what if any restoration. Smaller dents/tears and a very small hole are shown in annotated photographs online.
