of traditional form, the rectangular plinth base supporting a central pierced support flanked by four outer supports, rising to a curved rectangular seat. Wear consistent with use. 580 x 290 x 445mm. Provenance: Private Auckland collection, acquired Webb's Auction House, Important Oceanic and African Art, 11 November 2010, lot 34. Formerly from the Merton D. Simpson Collection, accompanied by a certificate from the Merton D. Simpson Gallery signed digitally by Director Juliette Pelletier. Purchased from Sotheby's, June 1985. Previously in the collection of Pierre Robin.
