The Jack Thornton Estate Auction of Scientific Instruments and Paraphernalia is a wonderful exhibit of one mans devotion to a collecting field. Jack emigrated to New Zealand from England in 1971, taking up the role of chemistry teacher at Palmerston North High School. His passion was for the workmanship in the engineering of scientific instruments as well as for the historical stage they captured. His foresight to collect and preserve has culminated in one of the better collections seen in New Zealand and to be offered at auction.
