A special offering of over 150 lots of highly collectable medals awarded to New Zealanders, along with military badges, insignia uniform and ephemera from the estate of Lawrence (Laurie) Osborne, Canterbury (1932-2021). Laurie's strong and long interest in medal collecting began at age 18, he was known throughout New Zealand for his knowledge and passion, building many relationships and friendships within the community, particularly during the last quarter of the 20thC. His collection is a testament to his desire to source and secure many fine examples as seen in this auction. Laurie’s interests in collecting were themed. He was particularly interested New Zealand’s involvement in World War 1, starting with the Samoan Advance Party (see lot 12), the Samoa Relief Force (see lot 42), followed by the deployment of troops to Egypt; the Gallipoli campaign and the Western Front (many associated lots are included in this auction). His collecting covered many of the key disciplines and specialised units that New Zealanders were involved with: Tunnelling (see lot 64), Medical ((lots 14, 37, 66), Nursing (lots 13, 71, 151), Māori Contingent (lot 20), Religious Support, Specialised Warfare Roles, Logistical and Veterinary Support, Military Training and Organisation. Together with lots that display incredible acts of heroism (e.g. Lot 27 being a medal, plaque and scroll to a machine-gunner on the Western Front who was wounded three times - eventually succumbing) This online bidding auction will close Monday 8th June from 6pm with bidding starting from 25th May. Lots will close one at a time, however bidding will extend for any lot that is bid on within the last minute, the following lot will close at its nominated time, unless it to is bid on within the last minute.
