Cordy's is pleased to offer this rare opportunity to purchase by timed online auction 150 lots of remainder stock from the prestigious firm Tanfield Potter. Tanfield Potter, china, crystal, glassware and cutlery merchants commenced trading in Shortland Street, Auckland, moving to 242 Queen Street in the 1890s and subsequently in 1929 to a purpose built china shop at 287 Queen Street. Stock was transferred to the new premises by horse and dray. Their final move took place in 1988 to Darby Building on the corner of Darby and Elliot Streets. They closed in 2021 after 160 years of trading. Rowland Potter, the third generation of Potters to run the company, started work in 1960 and retired in 2021 completing 61 years retailing fine imported products, mostly from the UK and Europe. The pieces to be offered here at Cordy's are the balance of the stock held by Tanfield Potter at the time of ceasing to trade. This offering of modern pieces includes many Moorcroft limited edition examples together with Royal Doulton flambe, figurines and collector's club pieces and lesser quantities of Poole, Beswick, Lalique and more.
