'The Dance of Death', suite of five ink sketches each initialled, one detailed in pencil on reverse with poem 'I found the young bird in the ivy. It's leg had been caught by twine. It's last movements must have been accompanied by the flutter of winds and growing panic as it tried to disentangle itself. In its stiffened preservation, it is beautiful - "The dance of Death" - 1992'.

These painted sketches were exhibited in 1992, they were the first drawings of Malcolm's shown publicly as opposed to his textile work which he was well known for by that time. The series of work explore Malcolm's musings into how the Pacific artifact being brought back to Europe from the explorations of this part of the world would have been received... as mysteriously exquisite objects.
