by Young & Co, Auckland named to Major General L.M. Inglis and inscribed with some of his awards. Badge bears the date 3rd Jan, 1950, exactly ten years after the 1st Echelon left NZ. 6.3gms. Accompanied by a miniature group of MC and WW1 trio attributed to Inglis. Note: Inglis received many other distinctions later in his career, but this group would represent his awards in the immediate post-WW1 period. Note: Maj-General Lindsay Merritt Inglis, CB, CBE, DSO & Bar, MC, ED (16 May 1894 – 17 March 1966) was a New Zealand military officer, lawyer and magistrate. Born in Mosgiel, volunteering for service with the NZ Rifle Brigade in the NZEF during the First World War. Inglis served on the Western Front being awarded the Military Cross for his actions during the Battle of Flers-Courcelette (September,1916). Ending the war as a company commander he returned to New Zealand in 1919. Re-enlisting with the 2nd NZEF he left with the First Echelon during World War II, commanding the 4th Infantry Brigade in Crete and North Africa. Inglis had two periods commanding the New Zealand Division. Following the war, he was appointed to a military court of the Allied Control Commission. He later served as chief judge of the Allied Control Commission's Supreme Court from 1947 to 1950.
