Lot Details

7¾" blade stamped with makers cypher (BM flanking cross of Lorraine), brass curved cross guard, curved antler handle finely scrimshaw with boar hunting scenes. Hand-riveted deep-throated scabbard stamped CJS (Christopher John Short) with belt loop. Owner's notes: Bought Tauranga show 16/8/08. Made by Scottish blacksmith, Brian McDonald who emigrated to N.Z. about 2002. His specialty was making swords. Scrimshaw and sheath made by Christopher John Short, Taupō, whose main claim to fame was to kidnap a helicopter and crew from Tokanui.
