Lot Details
Including: Graham Gooch, John Stephenson, Brian Hardie, Bruce French, Tim Robinson. Essex went into the final as strong favourites (9-4 on with bookmakers) after three previous B&H final defeats and had Nottinghamshire needing 4 runs off the very last ball. Graham Gooch won the toss and chose to bat; Alan Lilley top scored with an unbeaten 95. In the chase, veteran John Lever bowled the final delivery to fellow veteran Eddie Hemmings (both 40 years old at the time) — Hemmings squeezed the ball away for the runs needed, sealing Nottinghamshire's win and denying Essex a fourth final appearance without a trophy. Essex 243/7 (Alan Lilley 95* off 142 balls; Graham Gooch 48; Kevin Evans 2/28 for Notts). Nottinghamshire 244/7 (Tim Robinson 86* off 117 balls — Player of the Match; Paul Johnson 54; John Lever 2/43 for Essex)
