including Michael Holding, Mike Brearley, John Emburey, Bernard Julien, Roy Fredericks. This is a notable result as Middlesex beat the touring West Indians.— Lord's, 31 July–2/3 August 1976 (3-day match). Middlesex won by 4 wickets. West Indians: 222 and 308 - Middlesex: 257 and 275/6 (chasing 274). This genuinely impressive Middlesex win came right in the middle of a hugely dominant West Indies tour of England overall, where the tourists were thrashing county sides and England alike. So Middlesex managing an outright 4-wicket win against a touring side of that strength stands out as one of the best results any county achieved against the West Indies. This is arguably the strongest West Indies touring squad ever assembled — Clive Lloyd, Viv Richards, Gordon Greenidge, Michael Holding, Andy Roberts — all key architects of what became West Indies' era of total dominance through the late '70s and '80s. Richards in particular had an extraordinary tour, scoring 829 Test runs.
