Lot Details
Including: Rohan Kanai, Geoff Boycott, Keith Boyce, Bernard Julien, Roy Fredericks, Ray Illingworth, Dennis Amiss, Tony Greig West Indies toured England for a 3-Test series plus ODIs, captained by Rohan Kanhai (having succeeded Garry Sobers) against England. Some fading to West Indies signatures. Test series: West Indies won 2–0 (1 drawn). 1st Test, The Oval: West Indies won by 158 runs (WI 415 & 255 vs ENG 257 & 255). 2nd Test, Edgbaston: Drawn (WI 327 & 302 vs ENG — high-scoring, no result). 3rd Test, Lord's: West Indies won by an innings and 226 runs — a rout. West Indies posted a massive 652/8d, built around Rohan Kanhai's 156 and a Garry Sobers innings of 150 not out (he'd been drafted back in for the Tests after knee surgery ruled him out of the tour proper). England were bowled out twice, for 233 and 193. Leading performances: Rohan Kanhai was outstanding as both captain and batsman, top-scoring heavily including 156 at Lord's. Garry Sobers, despite sitting out the tour otherwise, was recalled for the Tests and produced a superb 150 not out at Lord's — one of the great innings of his career West Indies' batting depth overall was the story of the series; their totals dwarfed England's throughout. ODIs (Prudential Trophy): West Indies won the 2-match series (tied 1–1 on games but won on scoring rate). This 1973 tour is remembered as something of a comeback for West Indies after being regarded as underdogs following their loss to Australia the previous winter
