Lot Details
Including: David Gower, Mike Gatting, Graham Gooch, John Emburey, Peter Willey, Richard Ellison and Phil Edmonds. This series was played in the Caribbean and remembered as one of the most brutal tours in English cricket history. England toured the West Indies from 18 February to 16 April 1986, playing a five-match Test series which West Indies won 5–0, plus a four-match ODI series which West Indies won 3–1. England were captained by David Gower, West Indies by Viv Richards. Malcolm Marshall was named Player of the Series, while David Gower was actually England's leading run-scorer with 370 and John Emburey their leading wicket-taker with 14. This was West Indies' second ‘blackwash’ of England inside 18 months, following the 5–0 whitewash at home in England in 1984. Rob Steen, cricket historian, called it ‘the worst England tour ever,’ even worse than England's various Ashes drubbings. Mike Gatting suffered a broken nose from a Malcolm Marshall bouncer, and the tour was plagued by off-field turmoil including a sex/drug scandal involving Ian Botham and several England players linked to Rebel South African tours.
