Greg ‘Mo’ Matthews was genuinely one of the great characters of 1980s Australian cricket. His signature moment: 10 wickets in the famous Tied Test at Chennai (Madras) in 1986 — only the second tied Test in cricket history, and he bowled throughout wearing a jumper while others were collapsing from heatstroke. He was also a flamboyant, punk-influenced personality (earring, unconventional hair, jive-talk) who briefly became a genuine folk hero in Australia during a grim mid-80s stretch for the national team, He holds New South Wales's all-time appearance and wicket records. Simon Davis — a much more modest international career by comparison: just 1 Test cap (1986 v New Zealand) and 39 ODIs through 1986–88, as a fast-medium bowler for Victoria.
