Lot Details
Thomas Arthur McCormack. Watercolour & Conté on paper. signed. 310 x 470mm. “After spending his early years [in Napier, McCormack] moved to Wellington in 1921 to set up a studio. McCormack was one of New Zealand's first full time painters to remain solely in New Zealand to paint. In 1956 he was honoured with an OBE. He was intrigued by the subtleties of light and rhythms within the landscape. A master of the watercolour medium, he had an almost unlimited range of brushwork, from sensitive and light touches, to assertive boldness of swiftly applied strokes. McCormack has been called a poet of understatement” (Jarvis,1998)
