ink & watercolour, signed & dated '46. 155 x 175. n.b McAuslan was a New Zealand modernist, born in Riverton. He traversed mediums as a cartoonist, illustrator, painter, sculptor and ceramic artist. His works are scarce on the market & his work & words feature in the Yearbook of the Arts in New Zealand no. 5. He wrote that in their work and artist bares themself and 'a fundamental honesty is revealed... "rather than paint a scene exactly, I consider it important to capture the spirit of the scene... Only by doing this can one create an object which will be vital and alive".
