Lot Details
unsigned 550mm blade, 122mm tang with single meguki, apparently reduced tang notches, areas of oxidisation and open grain, exuberant hamon. Two piece copper habaki, yellow bronze quatrefoil tsuba with five seppa, chrysanthemum-atemisia leaf menuki, mixed plain fuchi-kashira, ribbon bound shagreen grip. Notes: Ken Corneal's catalogue notes this as collected as a Japanese World War II Officer’s Sword, the blade produced in the Mino Province around 1550.The hamon described as sugu-suji. This blade is in a katana length leather military scabbard, also with a modern black lacquer scabbard with gilt kojiri and koiguchi (chape and mouth).
