Lot Details
Very good silver herringbone wire bound grip. Good gilding on grip and guards. blade with crowned GR cypher, coat-of-arms and trophies, some rust pitting. Back of blade engraved 'Woolley & Deakin'. Has original sword knot. Later wooden scabbard. Purchased Wellington Auction 16.6.2017. Note: The firm Woolley & Deakin were in Birmingham, and under this name 1800-03. In 1808 they became Woolley, Deakin and Dutton. British Military Swords by Harvey Withers confirms the pattern of the Royal coat of arms on sword that it predates 1801.
