Lot Details
built in Adelaide, South Australia by the coach builders DUNCAN and FRASER between 1880 and 1883. For many years the Adelaide Express was in a carriage museum in South Australia, now closed. It was bought and taken to Kangaroo Valley in New South Wales by a family with shire horses. The present owner bought from that family for $18,000 AUD. It has recently received some restoration, and some spares will go with it. Features: A light but extremely strong undercarriage is based on two long semi elliptic springs at the side and full elliptic springs at the front and rear. These are joined to the fifth wheel and the pole for two horses. The springs can be seen in the photo. The four-spring mount was good because the weight was equally distributed. In addition, there are another two elliptical springs under each of the seats.
